刘栋伦，1938年生于青岛市。1956至1972年青岛临清路小学美术教师，1960至1963年青岛教育学院美术专业大专毕业，1973至1978年青岛14中学美术教师，1979至1981年青岛师专美术教师，1982至2002年青岛教育学院美术系主任、教授。现任中国美术家协会会员，青岛教育学院教授、美术系主任，青岛市美术家协会副主席、顾问、青岛市书画研究院名誉院长等。擅长山水画、兼工花鸟、书法篆刻等。系“中国书画百杰”画家。
作品参加了“中国名家书画大展”、“第五届国际书画作品展览”、山水作品入选“中国名家书画大展”、“第二届全国中国画展”、“2003年全国中国画作品展”、“首届中国美术家协会会员中国画精品展”及赴日、澳等国内外多次展览，曾获金奖、优秀奖等。大幅作品《三军过后尽开颜》被中央军委收藏。出版有《青岛风景写生》集、《刘栋伦山水画集》《刘栋伦国画作品选》；多幅作品入选《当代中国美术》、《中国书画作品精选》等多种画集。《美术观察》、《中国书画》等美术专刊介绍和刊载多幅作品。2005年评为“中国书画百杰”，2007年被“中国中外名人文化研究会”聘请为“中国书画大师”，2008年被“中国艺术名家研究院”授予“艺坛名师”，同时聘为院“荣誉院长”。同年编入中国改革开放30年30位书画艺术代表人物作品入选《三十年三十家》（中国画报社出版）。2007年“金融与收藏”拍卖会刘栋伦的作品《山海奇观》以60000元的价格成交。
作品情况参与创作的《中国红军二万五千里长征路80米画卷》被中央军委收藏（独立创作了其中10米X1.22米的《三军过后尽开颜》作品）。出版了《青岛风景写生集》、《刘栋伦山水画集》，多有作品选入《当代中国美术》等多种画集；《美术观察》等多家美术专刊介绍和刊载作品。
刘栋伦先生的山水画是写丘壑，讲笔墨和有意境的。他在这三方面均有所探索、有所作为，并取得了出色的成绩，形成了自己的独立面貌。刘栋伦的山水画写景、写情、写意，作风严谨而潇洒。他的传统功底很深，他从传统中汲取的养料不仅是技巧和方法，更重要的是精神与气度。他写客观山川的面貌时，深入领会山川之气质，牢牢把握自己的主观感受。他善于造景，更善于造境、造奇境、险境。他的画之所以能感染人，一是因为他有感而发，表达了他内心的激情；二是他力求致广大，尽精微。他善于宏观把握，注意整体大效果，他又善于发现和描绘精彩的局部与细节，穷尽其美。刘栋伦的笔墨技巧是为画面服务的，笔线的曲折往复，墨色的浓淡虚实，明暗交替以及章法的独特经营，均在变化统一的关系中，予人以充足的审美享受。刘栋伦长期在青岛生活、教学和创作。他的足迹遍及祖国名山大川，但他以青岛崂山为自己的创作基地。崂山不同于国内其他高山峻岭、它多奇峰怪石，山石勾多皴少，又因海石相连，形成“山海凌云、波海参天、海天一色、山海奇观”的特点。刘栋伦先后上崂山四十余次，积写生稿许多。他得崂山丘壑之灵气，又得传统笔墨之神妙，所以取得可贵的艺术成就。他笔下的崂山奇崛、雄伟、秀丽、景色富于变幻，他是描绘崂山力和美的最杰出的画家之一。
