刘德维，号子墨，1936年出生於中国山东青岛市，於50年代初毕业於青岛艺术学校绘画科，一生致力於艺术教育，对文化的贡献亦甚广。被称为“画痴”、“苦行僧。现为青岛画院资深教授、青岛市文化宫创作研究所研究员、文化部艺术发展中心特聘高级画师和中国艺术研究院创作委员。现居北京。
“他的画具有印象主义的所有特点，注重笔触、注重感受、注重情绪，有激情不雕琢，色彩强烈逼人。”美术研究杂志杜大恺道。我国著名美术评论家邵大箴教授在《刘德维绘画集》的序文写道：说实话：“我看了刘德维的作品之后的感觉是颇出乎意料之外的，他不仅是一位勤奋的画家，而且是一位很有灵性、悟性和很有创造性的艺术家，在60-70年代他就画出了今天看来很有意味的油画来，那是不容易的。”刘德维在他的抽象中国水墨画中，完全表达出他对艺术的自主性。他将光暗的变化像旋律般幻变出来。他掌握用墨的稳定性和密度技巧纯熟。同时，作品亦表现出他利用中国水墨来处理空间和结构的过人天分，笔触大胆而有朝气。透过他独有的艺术视野，刘老师努力捕捉观赏者的幻想，同时欢迎他们各有不同的感悟。
基於他对中国文字的独特锺爱，刘德维对传统中国书法创作出当代的演绎方法，而这创作旅程是建基於几个重要因素。首先，刘老师只选择有意思的字或成语，希望能令观赏者心领神会箇中道理。此外，他对文字的造型和轮廓也是一丝不苟，每一个字都能带出它自我的美态。最後，他对题字的布局处理既易於了解又引人入胜。在每一个布局中都有著自由豪迈且大胆老练的风格。

《刘德维绘画集》和《心象意象墨象》。许多作品在《当代油画艺术》、《中国美术选集》、《美术研究》、《美术观察》、《世界美术作品选集》、《美术丛刊》等发表并入选赴日本、美国、加拿大、欧洲等许多国家展出或被收藏。其传略与作品也被载入《中国美术家》、《中国当代艺术界名人录》、《中国文艺家传集》、《国际现代书画篆刻家大辞典》、《世界现代美术家大辞典》等三十馀部大典集。作品已列入中国中外名人文化艺术委员会名人资料库珍藏品。
近些年来，他的作品分别在新加坡新神州艺术院的《刘德维字象展2000》、日本长崎国际大学的《美の祭展2002》以及台湾台北风甲美术馆的《刘德维字象展2003》中先後展出。
