王炳炎，湖南长沙人，毕业于广州美院中国画系。现为中国美术家协会会员、中国当代工笔画协会会员、湖南工笔画协会副会长、湖南工笔画艺委会副主任、湖南省人物画协会副主席、湖南省书画院特聘画家。

王炳炎吸取前辈经验，揉和西洋画技，形成自己色彩明快，笔法细腻，造形生动的风格。作品曾代表近代中国美术赴前苏联展出，代表中国现代优秀作品赴日本展出，作品被中国美术馆先后三次收藏，被中南海收藏。多次在港、台和泰国展出并被出版介绍。曾获全国第六届美术作品展银奖，全国首届职工美术、书法、摄影作品展一等奖，全国第三届工笔画大展三等奖，全国第八届美展获优秀作品奖，多次获省展特等奖、一等奖、优秀作品奖，作品《胜似亲人》被国家教委编入全国小学第五册语文教课书中，并配有文章。代表作品有《胜似亲人》、《黄金路》、《潇湘女》、《怀念》、《蝶午》、《银色的梦》。先后被国内外几十家画册、书刊出版介绍。传略先后被编入“（1949-1989）中国美术年鉴”、“世界华人美术年鉴”、“中国文艺家传集”、“美术辞林”、“中国当代书画家大辞典”。
