1958年生于武汉市，毕业于南京艺术学院美术系。中国美术家协会会员，湖北省中国画学会副会长，武汉文史馆馆员，华中师范大学、江汉大学艺术学院客座教授，武汉美术馆馆长，武汉画院专业画家，国家一级美术师。
1996年，获德国杜伊斯堡市政府和鲁尔下莱茵企业联合会文化奖学金，应德国杜伊斯堡市政府邀请出国访问并举办个人画展；
1999年，作品《绿色家园》获全国第九届美术作品大展优秀作品奖，该作品为中国美术家协会送日本、韩国等国巡展；
