教授，男，1958年4月生于上海。
曾任上海大学美术学院副院长、教授、博士生导师。1982年毕业于中国美术学院（原浙江美术学院）设计系；中国美术家协会平面设计艺委会委员，中国高等教育设计委员会**，中国包协设计委员会**，上海工业美术设计协会副理事长，中国美术家协会会员，上海美术家协会理事，中国设计年鉴编委，2010年亚运会广州形象与景观设计专家。黄建平教授的学术研究方向为视觉传达设计、都市品牌设计与上海近现代设计史研究。曾先后设计完成了上海石油化工股份有限公司企业形象、上海电视台视觉形象、东方电视台视觉形象、上海申花足球俱乐部视觉形象、上海城市规划院视觉形象等。主持2010世博会上海馆策划方案设计，获二等奖，上海世博会户外广告设计专家，获ICOGRADA中国工作坊优秀奖。参与2015年第二届中国设计大展暨公共艺术展、主持2016上海设计大展——百年上海设计史展览。著有《招贴广告设计》《创意与表现》《风格-形式与平面设计》《标志创意设计》《版式构成》，主编教材有《设计素描》《设计色彩》等。主持编撰的《上海现代美术史大系——艺术设计卷》于2015年4月由上海人民美术出版社出版，主持编撰的《百年上海设计》一书将于2016年底出版。

由上海造币厂调入上海大学工艺美术系担任教学工作。

赴英国考察设计教学，先后赴剑桥大学、伯明翰设计学院以及伦敦相关设计机构。
