李山，出生于黑龙江兰西。1963年就读于黑龙江大学。1964年就读于上海戏剧学院。1968年毕业于上海戏剧学院，留校任教。1969年任职于浙江省军事农场。1958-1998年上海戏剧学院副教授。1995-1996年赴美国纽约艺术考察”。目前在上海和纽约居住。是重要的当代艺术家之一。
